I’ll be in Singapore next week to cover the World Cyber Games 2006 Asian Championship.

This is the first Asian Championship “side event” (the results of this event will have no bearing on the main WCG tournament, as the national finals for each country will determine who will qualify for the Grand Final. But the participants in the Asian Championship will not only win honor for their country but also cool cash prizes) for the WCG, which will hold its Grand Final this year in Monza, Italy in October. Singapore hosted the WCG 2005 Grand Final.

Asia’s best gamers will duke it out from Aug. 12 to 13. Participating in the Asian Championship are the Philippines, Singapore, Australia, China, Indonesia, India, Malaysia, New Zealand, Thailand and Vietnam.

By the way, INQ7 and hackenslash reporter Alex Villafania won in the WCG Asian Championship Philippine preliminary tournament to earn the right to represent our country in the Dead or Alive 4 category for Xbox 360.

For more information on WCG in the Philippines, visit the Philippine E-Sports Entertainment Network Inc. site.
