new joint-venture firm eyes rp market for pc games

IPVG, the company behind online game publisher IP Interactive and the portal for free-to-play games such as localized versions of Ran Online and O2Jam, has formed a joint venture with Singapore-based iGames Asia Pte Ltd.

While admitting that the prevalence of piracy in the Philippines is still a major challenge, Gonzalez pointed out that the joint-venture company will address this by offering attractive price points and value-added bundles.

"The problem with companies that brought in original PC games in the past was that they approached the market the wrong way. I hate to say it but they were based on what you could call 'First World pricing.' I think affordability was really the main issue behind piracy. If the price disparity is too big, people will always go for pirated games," Gonzalez said.
