Singapore-based New Era Group of Companies already distributes games through Philippine stores such as DataBlitz, but now they plan to expand their presence by opening an office in the country.

New Era is the regional distributor of game publishers such as Activision, THQ, Ubisoft, Bethesda, Sega — the list goes on — plus they carry the gaming peripherals of Saitek and other hardware manufacturers.

It was great to hear how bullish New Era is over the Philippine market for original games. Pretty soon, official launches of big PC and console titles might become as common in the Philippines as it is in Singapore and some other countries in the region.

Here's an excerpt from the story I wrote for hackenslash:

SINGAPORE-BASED New Era Group of Companies, the biggest distributor of games and gaming peripherals in Southeast Asia with an estimated 70 percent market share in the region, has unveiled plans to set up its Philippine office.

"We are targeting to have our operations set up in Makati City by May," Alan Teo, group managing director of New Era (www.neweraonline.com), told hackenslash via e-mail.
