Here’s their take:
Great gaming glitch #1
The gaming and gaming industry beat is without a doubt hotting up in the Asia-Pac region. And this, we think, is an example of one of the best:
“Was the prospect of winning the one million-peso top prize in the ongoing Ragnarok Philippine Championships 2005 the motive behind simultaneous “hack-delete” attacks on the leaders of five allied guilds vying for a slot in the finals?” asked Joey Alarilla for INQ7.
His story, in short, detailed how the characters of the five leading players in a Philippines gaming competition had been deleted, arguably by a hacker.
Was a closer shot at the prize money the goal of the attack?
Perhaps, wrote Alarilla, who also noted that some of the real live people behind the now-vacant ones had headed to the games firm’s offices to demand assistance – but were turned away by a security guard.
Alarilla then quoted one of the deleted characters as writing on a posting:
“This is a blatant attack [on] our rights as customers and I would like to warn everyone reading this post:
YOUR ACCOUNTS ARE NO LONGER SAFE. YOU COULD BE NEXT.”
